The
Williamston Fire Rescue EMS is a combination department providing
Fire, Rescue, EMS and Hazardous Materials
response to the Williamston and Skewarkee Fire
District. The department consists of 80 members
divided into 3 separate operational divisions. The Fire Rescue
EMS Department and the HazMat Team respond to almost 2000
incidents per year and cover 122 square miles.
The Fire Rescue
EMS department operates with 18 full-time career
personnel along with approximately 60
volunteers. It maintains 3 shifts of 5 personnel working
24 hour shifts, in addition to one Fire Prevention Officer, one
Administrative Assistant and one Fire Chief.
The department
values the service and dedication of its
volunteers. Volunteers play a
tremendous part in Emergency Services. Without
the services of our volunteers, it would very
difficult, if not impossible, to provide the
services currently being provided.
On a daily basis,
our operations staff provides day-to-day
operations to ensure the needs of emergency
response are up to standard so our customers,
the citizens, are well protected and cared for
in the event of an emergency.
Our Fire Prevention
office is responsible for fire code enforcement
and fire/life safety education. The prevention
office conducts fire inspections to the
businesses in our district and provides
fire/life safety education talks and station
tours to groups and individuals.
Williamston Fire Rescue EMS is also one of seven in North Carolina that
houses State of NC Hazardous Materials
Response Teams. NC RRT-1 team provides emergency
hazmat response to 25 northeastern NC counties.
The team has 40-plus personnel trained at
the Technician and/or Specialist level. NC RRT-1
went into service on September of 1995.
The Williamston Fire
Rescue Special Operations Team provides
specialized services such as High Angle Rope
Rescue, Water Rescue, Confined Space and Trench
Rescue.
