the North Carolina
and South Carolina
Finals for the
Colgate Country
Showdown,
the
nation's #1
talent search for
the best
up-and-coming
country music acts.
The Showdown has
helped launch some
of the top names in
Country music today
including Garth
Brooks and LeAnne
Rimes.
Megan Peeler,
the 2006 Carolina
Country Stampede
winner, advanced to
the nationals and
won!
Downtown Williamston
is transformed into
a musical showplace
during Stampede.
Main Street is
filled with over 100
vendors featuring
handmade crafts,
unique foods and
great gift items.
And there's
entertainment for
the entire family.
As night approaches,
a festive atmosphere
fills the street
from lights
of the tree-lined
sidewalks, and
laughter and music.
Thousands from
across North
Carolina and
neighboring states
help kick the event
off on Friday
nights. In
recent years the
stage in front of
Town Hall has
featured acts
including Chairman
of the Board, The
Embers and Mustang
Sally.
On
Saturday mornings
one of two stages is
dedicated to local
and regional
musicians and kid's
acts.
By mid-afternoon
on Saturday,
winners of over a
dozen local
competitions in
North and South
Carolina are
featured in the
Carolina Colgate
Country Showdown in
downtown
Williamston. The
winner of the
competition in
Williamston
wins a $1000 prize
and advances to the
Colgate Regional
Finals, one of three
in the country.
Regional winners
then advance to the Nationals. The
National Finals of
the Colgate Country
Showdown are
televised and have
featured Williamston
three times in the
last four years!
Winners appear with
such stars as Tanya
Tucker, Kenny
Rogers, Willie
Nelson, LeAnne Rimes
and Ricky Van
Shelton. They also
take home a $100,000
prize!
On Saturday
evening, the
festivities are
closed out with a
major musical act.
